Microbiology in Cancer Therapy

Microbiology in Cancer Therapy: The ability of many attenuated bacteria to cause tumor regression has been well known for many years, the exact mode of their action was unknown. It has generally been believed that bacteria activate the immune system upon entry to the host cells and that the activated immune system then allows cancer regression. A wide range of bacteria and other non-virus microbes, including fungi, have been implicated over the years in oncogenesis, as well as the ability to induce inflammation, which may cause cancer. Here, the role of bacteria and other non-virus microorganisms and oral cancers will be discussed.
